Composed and premiered in 1878-79, the first two of Antonín Dvorák’s 3 Slavonic Rhapsodies, op. 45 were the works he conducted at his first independent concert in late 1878, formally introducing himself to the Czech public in Prague. Taken together with the earlier Rhapsody in A minor, op. 14, these not often recorded works – all the rhapsodies the composer penned and replete with the melodic invention and colorful orchestration – are to be found on this new ArcoDiva CD in performances by the Pilsen Philharmonic and their main guest conductor Tomáš Brauner.
